Castro Spies, followed by Q&A - this is a fundraiser for Ranelagh Arts

'Castro's Spies' is the kind of documentary where you know the story could easily be turned into a movie, but it would never be able to capture any of the richness or the integrity of a documentary. Not only that, it seems all but virtually certain that no mainstream US studio would even dare take on the story for fear of it being accused of collaboration and communism.

HP Lovecraft and the Moon Bo: Leading scholars and experts in Gothic Literature, Religions, Folklore, Environmental Science and Mythology explore both the real and fantastical landscapes coded into HP Lovecraft's classic short story - 'The Moon Bog' - set within Ireland's ancient Peatlands.
The Martyrs of Khartoum: The Martyrs of Khartoum is the story of three doctors, Sara Ali, Sarah Khalifa and Rania Ahmed, and the roles they played during the Khartoum Massacre in Sudan on 3rd June, 2019. All three doctors risked their own lives by responding to the young protesters who were attacked by security forces in Khartoum, Sudan’s capital, that day. These security forces included the notorious Janjaweed militia, infamous for their killings in Darfur, western Sudan. The young people who were killed in Khartoum on 3rd June were referred to as “martyrs” by their fellow protesters. In this short film, Sara, Sarah and Rania describe the dramatic events of that day, the unbreakable spirit of the young protesters and their hopes for the future of Sudan. Resonant Frequency : Resonant Frequency is a short film about community and radio set in Dublin, Ireland. The story is told through the experiences of DIY broadcasters who have fashioned their own unique shows and voices through the platform of Dublin Digital Radio, an online radio station setup as a credible alternative to mainstream commercial broadcasters. The station has given a home and platform to a diverse network of creative scenes across Ireland, with roots from Chicago to Tokyo. Turn on, tune in and get involved
The Small Steps: Three generations of Ireland’s finest knifemakers live around Bantry Bay, between Schull and Glengarriff. This short documentary looks at the small steps they follow through their process of knifemaking.

Ranelagh Arts Fundraiser AN CAILÍN CIÚIN (THE QUIET GIRL)

The Quiet Girl is a 2022 Irish coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Colm Bairéad. The dialogue is mostly in Irish. Set in 1981, the film follows a withdrawn nine-year-old girl who experiences a loving home for the first time when she spends the summer on a farm with distant relatives in Rinn Gaeltacht, County Waterford. The film was nominated for Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards.
