Nikki Foster , Barbra Lee and Stephanie McLaughlin first met on the RHA Critical Correspondence Course (2024). These made a strong connection through the sharing of work and have come together for this exhibition to build on the creative energy experienced during the course. Using paint primarily , They are showcasing the versatility of the medium: the language of paint, the language of colour, and the partnership of the artists with their chosen media. The title of the exhibition acknowledges their different approaches and represents a meeting of three very individual artists who are interested in ideas of movement, opportunity, choices and connections to be made.
Artists :
Originally from Bournemouth in the UK Nikki Foster studied her BA in Painting at Camberwell College of Arts and her Masters in Arts Policy at Birkbeck University London. Her work intends to explore how we connect on a human level, our willingness to show weakness or vulnerability and ways in which e use and interpret language. Current investigations include the psychological landscapes of childhood, memory and fleeting moments captured by photography to be reconfigured by paint. She works predominantly with paint, photography and text.
Barbra Lee holds a BA (Hons) Fine Art and a Masters in Fine Art Paint from NCAD.
Inspired by observations on nature , her paintings are mostly abstract. Patterns , texture and colour will often collide allowing an image to emerge organically. The use of paper collage is an important part of her process. This preparatory exercise of placement and layering allows for the possibility of unexpected relationships between colour and shape. Her work is held in private and state collections.
Stephanie McLaughlin hold a BA in Art and Design and an MA in Creative Practice from ATU Galway. She is a landscape painter whose impressions of landscape are influenced by experience rather then a view, and these works have their own internal visual logic so they can function as an artwork, and capture the essence of a space and time. She was longlisted for the RDS visual arts awards in 2016. She has had four solo shows and been part of many group shows, including the RHA annual in 2021.
